‘151’ Flammable Rum is molasses based and produced using the first commercial strain of traditional rum yeast to be sold in the UK.
Flammable is a high strength ‘151’ rum. The name refers to the alcohol concentration level of 151° US proof, translating to 75.5% VOL. This high-proof, highly flammable rum originated in 1934 (Hudson Bay 151) when it was developed to withstand freezing temperatures in the Canadian arctic. Lower proof spirits were prone to freezing and the bottles would burst during shipment. 151 rums are often used in floater cocktails where a layer of high-strength alcohol is needed to ignite the drink.
DANGER
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE LIQUID AND VAPOUR. FIRE AND EXPLOSION RISK.
Keep away from all sources of ignition, including open flames, sparks, heat, and direct sunlight. The vapour alone can ignite, and pouring this high-proof spirit near a flame creates a catastrophic fire and explosion hazard. Never pour directly from the bottle near any ignition source or a lit candle.
If flaming cocktails are desired, always pour a small amount into a separate, heavy-duty container away from all flames before applying heat. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area. Handle with extreme care. In case of fire, use an appropriate extinguisher for flammable liquids; do not use water on an alcohol fire as it may spread the flames.
